Job Title: Building Maintenance Worker

We are seeking a reliable and skilled Building Maintenance Worker to join our team at Lutheran Community Housing Corporation of Thunder Bay. As a key member of our facilities team, you will be responsible for ensuring the upkeep and maintenance of our buildings, ensuring a safe and healthy environment for our residents and staff.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Maintenance and Repairs: Perform routine maintenance tasks, including sweeping, mopping, and waxing floors, as well as making adjustments and minor repairs to heating, cooling, ventilation, plumbing, and electrical systems.
  • Waste Management: Empty trash cans and other waste containers, and ensure that all areas are kept clean and free of debris.
  • Grounds Maintenance: Water and tend to plants, lawns, and/or gardens, and perform other routine maintenance jobs such as painting and drywall repair.
  • Security and Safety: Perform safety and security checks, and ensure that all areas are secure and free of hazards.
Requirements:
  • Education: No degree, certificate, or diploma required.
  • Experience: Experience an asset.
  • Certifications: Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) Certificate.
  • Equipment and Machinery Experience: Lawn mowers, carpet cleaning machine, power tools, power lawn mowers, small tractors (lawn/snow removal attachments), snowblower.
  • Transportation/Travel Information: Valid driver's license, own vehicle, driver's abstract.
  • Work Conditions and Physical Capabilities: Work under pressure, repetitive tasks, handling heavy loads, physically demanding, bending, crouching, kneeling.
  • Weight Handling: More than 45 kg (100 lbs).
  • Personal Suitability: Dependability, excellent oral communication, flexibility, initiative, judgement, organized, reliability.
