About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Occupational Health and Safety Specialist to join our team at Fraser Health Authority. As a key member of our Health and Safety department, you will play a critical role in ensuring a safe and healthy work environment for our employees and patients.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and Implement Health and Safety Programs

Develop, implement, and monitor the Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S) program, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation, regulations, and standards.

Provide Health and Safety Education and Training

Deliver OH&S instructional education and training programs to directors, managers, and front-line staff, promoting a culture of safety and health awareness.

Consult and Advise on Health and Safety Matters

Consult with executive directors, directors, managers, staff, and other clients on health and safety issues, providing expert advice and guidance to ensure compliance with applicable legislation and regulations.

Investigate and Report on Workplace Incidents

Investigate and report on workplace incidents, providing recommendations to management to prevent future occurrences and ensure compliance with applicable legislation and regulations.

Collaborate with Stakeholders

Liaise with WorkSafeBC officers, investigate and provide advice to management, and respond to workplace incident reports, ensuring effective communication and collaboration with stakeholders.

Requirements
  • Education and Experience

Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety from a recognized program, plus five (5) years recent related experience in a unionized environment and registration as a Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP), or an equivalent combination of education, experience, and certification that is acceptable to Fraser Health Authority.

Competencies

Demonstrated knowledge of workplace health and safety principles and practices, working knowledge of relevant health and safety regulations and legislation, and ability to deal effectively with others in a highly sensitive labor climate.
