Position: Fiber and Structured Cabling Technician

Location: Edmonton Area

Company Overview:

Tridon Communications is a leading provider of integrated telecommunications solutions, expanding our operations in the Edmonton region. We are currently in search of skilled Fiber and Structured Cabling Technicians.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Assemble, install, repair, and maintain structured cabling systems and fiber optic networks.
  • Handle cabling for commercial buildings, industrial setups, and temporary installations.
  • Conduct fiber optic tasks, including cable installation, field connector installation, splicing with fusion splicers, and testing with OTDR and Power Meters.

Essential Experience:

  • Proficient in installing structured cable components (Cat 5E, Cat 6, Cat 6A, Fiber Optic).
  • Experience in testing communication circuits through existing cabling networks.
  • Skilled in servicing, maintaining, and troubleshooting communication circuits and cabling systems.
  • Ability to troubleshoot, repair, and replace components as necessary.
  • Facilitate training and development for new team members.
  • Adjust and repair connections, fittings, and couplings.
  • Interpret telecommunication drawings and specifications accurately.

Key Qualifications:

  • Safety-first mindset.
  • Valid Alberta Class 5 Operator's License or equivalent.
  • Ability to pass pre-access drug and alcohol testing.
  • Preferred: College Technical Diploma or equivalent in a related field.
  • Certifications from TE Connectivity, Commscope Systimax, Belden, or Corning are advantageous.
  • Strong customer service skills.
  • Thorough understanding of networking requirements and telecommunications wiring standards.
  • Adaptability to new techniques and rapid changes.
  • Capability to work safely in hazardous environments.
  • Knowledge of tools, equipment, materials, and practices relevant to the trade.
  • Familiarity with telecommunication codes, standards, and regulations.
  • Fluency in English, both written and verbal.
  • Team-oriented approach.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to stoop, bend, kneel, and squat for extended periods.
  • Comfortable working at heights using ladders and man lifts.
  • May need to carry equipment weighing up to 50 lbs for short distances.
