Position Overview

The Hydrologic Forecasting and Water Management Branch within the Manitoba Government is actively seeking qualified individuals for the position of Senior Shoreline Management Engineer.

Employment Conditions:
  • Must possess legal authorization to work in Canada
  • A Bachelor's degree in Civil or Geotechnical Engineering is required
  • Registration or eligibility for registration as a Professional Engineer with Engineers Geoscientists Manitoba (EGM) is necessary
  • Willingness and ability to travel within Manitoba as needed
  • Capability to occasionally work in outdoor environments with rough terrain during both winter and summer, including extreme weather conditions
Key Qualifications:
  • Significant experience in geotechnical modeling, erosion control design, and riverbank stability projects
  • Proven expertise in conducting technical reviews with a solid grasp of geotechnical engineering principles, including material properties, groundwater conditions, construction methods, and industry practices for erosion control
  • Experience with geographic information systems (GIS), particularly ArcView GIS
  • Comprehensive understanding of shoreline erosion processes, slope stability assessments, and riverbank stabilization techniques
  • Strong interpersonal skills to cultivate collaborative relationships with various stakeholders
  • Excellent written communication abilities, including the preparation of both technical and non-technical documents and reports
  • Proficient verbal communication skills
  • Ability to conduct independent research and propose innovative solutions for departmental operations
  • Familiarity with Workplace Safety and Health practices
Preferred Qualifications:
  • A Master's Degree in Civil Engineering is considered an asset
Role Responsibilities: The Senior Shoreline Management Engineer will deliver geotechnical expertise, advice, and support concerning riverbank and shoreline initiatives throughout Manitoba. This role includes chairing and overseeing the Shoreline Erosion Technical Committee (SETC) to provide comprehensive services across the province. The engineer will also design and integrate multidisciplinary technical contributions for projects requiring riverbank and shoreline erosion mitigation or stabilization. Additionally, the Senior Shoreline Management Engineer will evaluate applications for shoreline and riverbank developments, focusing on the geotechnical aspects in relation to designated flood zones, provincial waterway regulations, Water Management Engineering and Construction (WME&C) design standards, and Manitoba Parks policies.
