Position Overview

We are seeking a skilled Emergency Department Mental Health Liaison Nurse to enhance our In-Patient Psychiatry team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver mental health and substance use support to patients within assigned programs.
  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to conduct thorough assessments, crisis interventions, stabilization, and care planning.
  • Ensure culturally safe, trauma-informed, and patient-centered care while performing screenings, triaging, and providing treatment.
  • Identify patients experiencing urgent mental health and substance use challenges within the designated population.
  • Work alongside clients, families, and clinical partners to guarantee integrated service delivery across the care continuum.
  • Serve as a resource for the team by sharing knowledge based on nursing practices related to patient care needs.
  • Facilitate patient care and flow between various programs and services, including emergency departments and community partners.
  • Provide direct care and emergency crisis response as necessary, including hospitalization facilitation and treatment planning.
  • Engage in team meetings, educational opportunities, and quality improvement initiatives.

Qualifications

Education & Experience:

  • Active registration as a Registered Nurse or Registered Psychiatric Nurse with the appropriate regulatory body.
  • A minimum of three years of relevant experience in mental health and substance use treatment.
  • A valid driver's license is required for local travel.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Ability to conduct comprehensive nursing assessments and interventions for various clinical situations.
  • Understanding of emergency mental health protocols and crisis stabilization techniques.
  • Familiarity with trauma-informed practices and recovery-oriented mental health care models.
  • Ability to provide culturally competent care across diverse populations.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Capacity to manage conflict and respond to challenging behaviors effectively.
