Mental Health Liaison Nurse for Emergency Services

Position OverviewWe are seeking a skilled Emergency Department Mental Health Liaison Nurse to enhance our In-Patient Psychiatry team.
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver mental health and substance use support to patients within assigned programs.
- Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to conduct thorough assessments, crisis interventions, stabilization, and care planning.
- Ensure culturally safe, trauma-informed, and patient-centered care while performing screenings, triaging, and providing treatment.
- Identify patients experiencing urgent mental health and substance use challenges within the designated population.
- Work alongside clients, families, and clinical partners to guarantee integrated service delivery across the care continuum.
- Serve as a resource for the team by sharing knowledge based on nursing practices related to patient care needs.
- Facilitate patient care and flow between various programs and services, including emergency departments and community partners.
- Provide direct care and emergency crisis response as necessary, including hospitalization facilitation and treatment planning.
- Engage in team meetings, educational opportunities, and quality improvement initiatives.

QualificationsEducation & Experience:
- Active registration as a Registered Nurse or Registered Psychiatric Nurse with the appropriate regulatory body.
- A minimum of three years of relevant experience in mental health and substance use treatment.
- A valid driver's license is required for local travel.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Ability to conduct comprehensive nursing assessments and interventions for various clinical situations.
- Understanding of emergency mental health protocols and crisis stabilization techniques.
- Familiarity with trauma-informed practices and recovery-oriented mental health care models.
- Ability to provide culturally competent care across diverse populations.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Capacity to manage conflict and respond to challenging behaviors effectively.
Work hours and responsibilities may vary based on operational needs. Successful candidates may need to undergo a criminal records review. Compliance with public health vaccination requirements is mandatory.
