Position OverviewWe are seeking a dedicated Emergency Department Mental Health Liaison Nurse to support the In-Patient Psychiatry team. This role involves providing critical mental health and substance use care to patients in emergency settings.
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver mental health and substance use support to patients within designated programs.
- Collaborate with a multi-disciplinary team to conduct thorough assessments, crisis interventions, stabilization, and care planning.
- Ensure culturally safe, trauma-informed, and patient-centered care while screening, triaging, and providing treatment.
- Identify patients experiencing urgent mental health and substance use issues.
- Work closely with clients, families, and clinical partners to provide integrated services across the care continuum.
- Serve as a resource for the interdisciplinary team, offering insights based on nursing theory and practice.
- Facilitate patient care and flow between various programs and services, including emergency departments and community partners.
- Provide direct care and crisis response as needed, including facilitating hospital admissions and coordinating treatment plans.
- Engage in team meetings, continuing education, and quality improvement initiatives.
This position requires a strong commitment to providing high-quality mental health care in a fast-paced environment. The successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to assess and manage a range of mental health and substance use challenges.
QualificationsEducation & Experience:
- Current registration as a Registered Nurse or Registered Psychiatric Nurse with the relevant regulatory body.
- A minimum of three years of recent experience in mental health and substance use treatment.
- A valid driver's license is required for local travel.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Proficient in conducting comprehensive nursing assessments and interventions.
- Knowledgeable in emergency mental health practices and crisis stabilization techniques.
- Familiar with trauma-informed care and harm reduction strategies.
- Ability to communicate effectively with diverse populations and promote cultural safety.
- Skilled in managing patients with complex health needs and responding to crises.
