Summary

Under the supervision of the Operations Leader, the Registered Nurse evaluates, identifies, plans, implements, and assesses the nursing care necessary to support patients in fulfilling their physical, social, spiritual, and psychological requirements, utilizing a recognized framework for nursing practice.

The Registered Nurse develops, executes, assesses, and modifies the care plan, integrating individual and/or group education into the care strategy and nursing actions, while also making referrals to other relevant resources. This role includes supporting fellow nurses and healthcare professionals by sharing knowledge and demonstrating procedures collaboratively.

The Registered Nurse operates within a multidisciplinary clinical framework, adhering to the BCCNM Standards of Practice and aligning with the mission, vision, values, and established protocols of Providence Health Care.

Qualifications / Skills and Education

Education: Registration with the BC College of Nurses & Midwives as a practicing RN registrant, or in Residential Care and Mental Health, registration with the BC College of Nurses & Midwives as a practicing RN or a practicing RPN registrant.

Duties and Responsibilities

The Registered Nurse reviews patient status through various methods, including chart reviews, patient observations, interviews with patients and family members, and consultations with peers and other healthcare team members.

The role involves assessing patient needs, planning, implementing, evaluating, and prioritizing nursing care, and developing care plans based on clinical judgment and evidence-based practices.

Nursing care is provided in accordance with established policies, procedures, technology, and PHC standards. Responsibilities include monitoring patient progress, evaluating outcomes, reassessing care plans when goals are unmet, and modifying care strategies as necessary.

The Registered Nurse documents observations, reports changes in patient conditions to designated staff, and provides direct nursing interventions during crises and life-threatening situations.

Additionally, the role includes identifying and addressing patient and family educational needs, providing educational materials, and incorporating teaching activities into care plans. The Registered Nurse also leads group sessions for patients and families, coaching them to develop and maintain health-promoting behaviors.

The Registered Nurse offers guidance to other staff members, such as Care Attendants and Licensed Practical Nurses, regarding patient care and fosters effective teamwork within the unit.

Responsibilities extend to participating in nursing orientation, sharing clinical knowledge with nursing staff and students, and engaging in educational programs as required.

Participation in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of patient care policies, procedures, educational materials, and best practices is essential, as is supporting nursing research initiatives.

The Registered Nurse also facilitates discharge planning and collaborates with families and community resource agencies, advocating for patients' rights to dignity, respect, privacy, confidentiality, autonomy, and access to information.
