Job Summary

The Clinical Nurse Specialist will provide expert nursing care to patients within the CARE Program at BC Women's Hospital + Health Centre. As a member of the multi-disciplinary team, the RN will work collaboratively with medical staff and other healthcare professionals to ensure effective, evidence-based, and high-quality patient-centered care.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide patient education and support to patients in the Program around issues related to their procedure and/or treatment.
  • Work collaboratively with medical staff and other multi-disciplinary healthcare team members to assist in ensuring effective, evidence-based, and high-quality patient-centered care.
  • Provide clinical nursing support and care for patients, including preparation for pregnancy termination, administration and provision of conscious sedation, and managing recovering patients after conscious sedation.
  • Ensure that standards of care are maintained during the administration of conscious sedation during procedures.
  • Participate in streamlining and adjusting procedure appointments and surgical slate to ensure patients are cared for in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Maintain related records, including handwritten and computerized documents such as patient records, data sheets, and procedural forms.
  • Participate in program and/or policy development by providing feedback on nursing policies as requested.
  • Provide input to the Program Manager or delegate regarding policies, procedures, and operational requirements.
  • Participate in the WHC emergency preparedness by checking the crash cart, participating in mock codes and emergency codes, and responding to other emergency situations as required.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an approved School of Nursing with current practicing registration as an RN with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).
  • Two (2) years of recent related clinical nursing experience in maternity/gyne or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Completion of a recognized conscious sedation training course or previous experience providing conscious sedation.
  • Ability to practice women-centered care.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Ability to operate related equipment.
  • Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
