Position Overview

As a vital member of the Interdisciplinary Team, the incumbent will deliver exceptional Occupational Therapy Services to individuals facing mental health challenges and/or acquired brain injuries. The service model is recovery-focused, emphasizing collaboration with patients, families, and communities while embodying the core values of hope, respect, and clinical excellence. A strong commitment to the vision, values, goals, and objectives of the organization, particularly in relation to patient safety, is essential.

Experience

  • Preferred recent and relevant clinical experience.
  • Experience in mental health or geriatrics is considered an asset.

Education Requirements

  • An entry-level academic credential in Occupational Therapy from an accredited Canadian university program or an equivalent recognized by the College of Occupational Therapists of Manitoba (COTM).
  • Successful completion of relevant continuing professional education in the designated clinical area is preferred.

Certification and Registration

  • Registration with the College of Occupational Therapists of Manitoba (COTM) is mandatory, with the incumbent's name listed in the practicing or provisional register.
  • Membership in the Manitoba Society of Occupational Therapists (MSOT) and the Canadian Association of Occupational Therapists (CAOT) is preferred.
  • Compliance with Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) training requirements as per organizational policy.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Comprehensive knowledge of best practice standards in occupational therapy theory and models.
  • Proven ability to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient-centered occupational therapy programs.
  • Effective leadership, interpersonal, and communication skills.
  • Ability to foster and maintain positive interpersonal relationships.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Collaborative approach to working with other disciplines.
  • Demonstrated professional judgment and initiative.
  • Effective organizational, critical thinking, clinical reasoning, conflict resolution, and decision-making skills.
  • Understanding of evidence-based practice.
  • Capability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Knowledge of the physiological, social, cultural, and economic aspects of patient care.
  • Ability to manage and complete tasks with minimal supervision.
  • Openness to adapting to new concepts, techniques, and best practices in healthcare.
  • Proficiency in computer skills relevant to the role.

Physical Requirements

  • Must maintain good physical and mental health.
  • Adequate strength, agility, motor coordination, and dexterity are necessary for implementing therapeutic techniques and activities.
  • Potential exposure to infectious diseases, blood and body fluids, toxic materials, noise, allergens, and emotional stress.
  • May encounter aggressive or agitated clients, visitors, or staff.
  • Flexibility to occasionally work extended hours and various shifts, including weekends.
