Job Summary

The City of Ottawa is seeking a highly skilled Traffic Assessment Investigator to join our team in the Public Works Department. As a key member of our Traffic Services team, you will be responsible for conducting thorough investigations into traffic safety concerns, analyzing data, and developing recommendations to enhance road safety for drivers and pedestrians.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct thorough investigations into traffic safety concerns, including collecting and analyzing data, and developing recommendations to enhance road safety
  • Develop and implement procedures to enhance safety for drivers and pedestrians through the continuous review of evolving traffic and collision patterns
  • Manage the implementation, monitoring, assessment, refinement, and development of installation criteria for traffic control devices and safety initiatives
  • Investigate fatal collisions to determine the role of the road and its infrastructure in the cause or severity of those collisions
  • Prepare sketches, take photographs, and field measurements of problem locations, and interview complainants and other involved parties for additional information
Requirements
  • Completion of a 2-year technical diploma in Civil Engineering Technology or other engineering-related course
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in traffic investigations, traffic operations, and transportation engineering or an equivalent transportation-related field
  • Knowledge of data collection and research techniques, computer operations and applications, fundamentals of traffic engineering, and Ontario Highway Traffic Act and Traffic Manuals
  • Ability to research data and summarize findings in an organized, clear, and concise manner, and to make decisions/recommendations based on standard policy with reference to supervisor
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills, and the ability to work and contribute in a team environment
