Position Overview: Associate Mortgage Underwriter, Third Party Residential Underwriting

Key Responsibilities:

Reporting to the Manager of Third Party Residential Underwriting, the Associate Mortgage Underwriter plays a crucial role in the underwriting and credit evaluation process. This position involves a thorough review of all necessary documentation while ensuring adherence to established due diligence practices. The Associate Mortgage Underwriter is tasked with identifying and escalating any discrepancies, concerns, or incomplete items that may pose a risk to the organization.

The Third Party Residential Underwriting Division, part of First National Financial, specializes in providing underwriting expertise and services for various financial institutions within the Canadian Mortgage Broker sector.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Building and maintaining strong relationships with mortgage brokers to foster loyalty to the organization.
  • Establishing positive interactions with external partners such as mortgage insurers, appraisers, title insurance companies, and legal professionals.
  • Collaborating with mortgage brokers to gather all necessary documentation to meet mortgage commitment requirements.
  • Conducting thorough reviews and verifying the accuracy of documentation related to income, down payment, and property, ensuring compliance with internal and regulatory standards prior to approving any mortgage conditions or documents.
  • Escalating any documentation discrepancies to the Underwriter for further assessment and approval.
  • Maintaining clear and comprehensive notes within the mortgage underwriting system.
  • Responding to inquiries within established turnaround times.
  • Adhering to policies and procedures to ensure compliance with Anti-Money Laundering (AML) regulations.

Required Qualifications:

  • Strong commitment to service excellence.
  • Proven ability to develop and sustain positive relationships.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Proficient in conflict resolution.
  • Completion of post-secondary education or equivalent work experience is required.
  • Previous experience in the Financial Services sector is preferred.
  • Experience in the Mortgage industry is an asset.
