Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly motivated and compassionate Rehabilitation Teacher II to join our team at the Texas Department of Aging & Disability Services. As a key member of our multidisciplinary team, you will play a vital role in providing specialized care and support to individuals with mental impairments.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist in performing mid-level rehabilitative planning and instructional work for patients with mental impairments.
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive, structured, hospital-wide recreational activity program with some supervisory responsibilities.
  • Identify clients' recreation and rehabilitative needs and provide the necessary instruction outlined in conjunction with the Registered Therapist in teaching self-help or self-care to assist clients in attaining their optimum levels of independent living.
  • Provide services in groups or on an individual basis, including activity services at the Bonham Day Program and on the units as needed.
  • Supervise the work of others and perform assigned duties alone or as part of a multidisciplinary team.
Requirements:
  • Ability to work under moderate supervision with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.
  • Strong working knowledge of group dynamics and application to Rehabilitation Therapy Services.
  • Ability to maintain inventory of supplies needed for activities/services.
  • Knowledge of therapeutic methods and techniques in the rehabilitative therapy area of specialization of mental illness and mental disabilities in a safe manner.
  • Ability to continually present self as a role model to all persons in contact with.
