Oncology General Practitioner

The Nova Scotia Health Authority Cancer Care Program, Eastern Zone, Inverness Cancer Clinic, has an exciting opportunity for a General Practitioner in Oncology (GPO) to join their dynamic interdisciplinary team. As a GPO, you will work collaboratively with specialists from Medical Oncology, Gynecologic Oncology, Hematology, Radiation Oncology, Urology, Surgery Oncology, Thoracic Surgery, and Palliative Care to manage care for cancer patients. The GPO will be accountable to the Nova Scotia Health Authority Cancer Care Program (NSHA CCP) Senior Medical Director and will work in a shared care model to ensure seamless care for patients.
Responsibilities- Provide outpatient care to cancer patients in various clinical settings, including oncology clinics, chemotherapy units, and virtual care clinics.
- Assist in the accelerated workup of suspected cancer and manage cancer symptoms and treatment-related adverse effects in collaboration with the specialist and healthcare team.
- Participate in oncology-related meetings and continuing medical education to stay current and maintain competency in oncology care.
- Adhere to NSHA Cancer Care Program guidelines and policies to ensure that expected standards of care are achieved.
- Provide local academic and clinical leadership related to the care of cancer patients, including working in a co-leadership capacity with the clinic manager and/or providing zone medical leadership as needed.
This is a part-time opportunity with variable patient load. The successful candidate will be required to work a minimum of 0.5 FTE.
Qualifications- Candidates must be eligible for certification by the College of Family Physicians of Canada.
- Candidates must be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Nova Scotia.
- Candidates must maintain active Canadian Medical Protective Association coverage as well as have active hospital privileges at their designated site.
