Facilities Maintenance Supervisor

Status: Permanent - Full time (40 hours / week)
Department: Maintenance
Direct supervisor: Director of Maintenance

The Kativik Municipal Housing Bureau (KMHB) is dedicated to providing safe, comfortable, and affordable housing tailored to the needs and culture of the Inuit community. Through its various programs and services, it plays a vital role in fostering vibrant, sustainable, and secure communities.

KEY FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES

The selected candidate will oversee the operations of maintenance teams in close collaboration with the foreman and assistant foreman, if applicable. The role involves ensuring the prioritization and execution of work orders for preventive, routine, and emergency maintenance tasks.
The specific responsibilities include:

  • Collaborating with the Director of Operations to plan and identify priority maintenance tasks for buildings within the communities;
  • Maintaining regular communication with foremen or directly with maintenance personnel to monitor progress and address any challenges faced;
  • Providing support and engaging in problem-solving discussions;
  • Consulting with housing managers to verify tenant requests and assess satisfaction levels post-maintenance, focusing on continuous improvement;
  • Conducting periodic visits to assigned communities to foster relationships with local teams, understand their needs, guide the implementation of work aids, and evaluate the quality of completed work;
  • Working with the Procurement Department to ensure field teams have the necessary equipment;
  • Ensuring that staff maintain cleanliness and organization in storage areas for safety and accessibility of tools and supplies;
  • Assisting in identifying labor needs and participating in the recruitment, selection, and onboarding of new maintenance staff;
  • Acting as a mentor to foremen and teams to enhance their skills and capabilities in fulfilling their roles;
  • Approving staff leave requests and managing time sheets in accordance with payroll schedules;
  • Contributing to the collection of performance metrics and dashboard data for all activities under the role's responsibilities.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • CEGEP diploma in Building Science or related field;
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience in building maintenance;
  • At least five (5) years of experience in personnel management (Note: extensive work experience may compensate for the absence of a diploma).

REQUIREMENTS

  • Proficiency in two of the three regional languages (Inuktitut, English, or French);
  • Advanced knowledge of computer tools and the Internet;
  • Willingness to work in various environments, including extreme weather conditions, and travel to assigned villages.

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

KMHB offers a competitive salary, RRSP, travel benefits, cost of living differential, and favorable working conditions. The starting salary is $35.57, with potential for increase based on relevant experience.
