Job Summary

Fraser Health is seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented individual to join our team as a Sterile Processing Technician. In this role, you will be responsible for ensuring the highest level of cleanliness and sterility in our operating rooms and equipment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Clean, decontaminate, assemble, sterilize, and distribute supplies, surgical instruments, and related equipment for the Operating Room (OR)
  • Disassemble, wash, clean, and reassemble various anaesthetic-related equipment, according to established procedures
  • Pick surgical supplies/instruments for surgical cases, as per established procedures and/or physician's request
  • Prepare dirty instruments for transport, transport contaminated equipment and instruments to and from the Operating Room (OR), and locate and obtain instruments/supplies as required
  • Maintain cleanliness of sterilizers and sterile core and instrument room, clean equipment room and shelving containing sterile and clean supplies
  • Distribute instrument and/or equipment in accordance with established procedures
  • Issue and/or deliver supplies, as requested, and maintain departmental stock of supplies and check against inventory levels, as per established procedures
  • Restock supplies and set up anaesthetic carts, as per established procedures, fill supply requests from the OR, and receive sterile supplies, as required
  • Participate in the Departmental Quality Assurance Program by participating in the routine maintenance of departmental equipment, cleaning, checking, and testing sterilizers and other related equipment
  • Transport specimens to the laboratory and patients from the OR, as required, and transport patient belongings to designated areas, as needed
  • Perform clerical duties, such as assisting with the recording of workload statistics on supplies and equipment, answering the telephone, completing maintenance requisitions for signature, maintaining records, files, and performing related typing duties

Requirements

  • Grade 12, successful completion of Sterile Supply Processing Program, plus one year's recent related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
  • Knowledge of surgical and medical terminology
  • Mathematical aptitude
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing
  • Ability to deal effectively with others
  • Ability to operate related equipment
  • Physical ability to perform the duties of the position
  • Ability to organize work
