About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Data Engineer to join our team at The Globe and Mail. As a key member of our data team, you will play a critical role in driving the transformation and optimization of our data ecosystem to enhance innovation and strategic decision-making.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and implement robust data pipelines that seamlessly integrate across diverse environments using Snowflake, AWS, and Databricks.
  • Collaborate with data scientists, ML engineers, analysts, and business stakeholders to devise elegant solutions for complex data challenges.
  • Implement encryption, access controls, and compliance measures to safeguard data and contribute to defining the organization's Data Governance framework.
  • Fine-tune queries, indexing, and ETL processes to transform raw data into actionable insights with maximum efficiency.
  • Manage, prepare, and structure data to support ingestion by machine learning models, enabling our AI initiatives.
Requirements
  • Proven expertise in designing and implementing scalable data architectures, with a strong focus on data lakes and data warehouses, particularly using Snowflake and Redshift.
  • Proven experience in building and optimizing ETL pipelines using tools like Airflow, NiFi, or custom Python scripts.
  • Deep knowledge of data governance frameworks and best practices, with experience in implementing data security, privacy, and regulatory compliance measures.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, including data scientists, analysts, and business stakeholders.
