About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Data Engineer to join our team at The Globe and Mail. As a key member of our data science and analytics team, you will play a critical role in driving the transformation and optimization of our data ecosystem.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and implement scalable and efficient data pipelines that support critical business functions, including editorial, subscription management, and advertising.
  • Integrate advanced analytics and machine learning models into our infrastructure, unlocking actionable insights from our governed data.
  • Collaborate with data scientists, ML engineers, analysts, and business stakeholders to devise elegant solutions for complex data challenges.
  • Implement encryption, access controls, and compliance measures to safeguard data and contribute to defining the organization's Data Governance framework.
  • Manage, prepare, and structure data to support ingestion by machine learning models, enabling our AI initiatives.
Requirements
  • Proven expertise in designing and implementing scalable data architectures, with a strong focus on data lakes and data warehouses.
  • Experience in building and optimizing ETL pipelines using tools like Airflow, NiFi, or custom Python scripts.
  • Strong knowledge of data governance frameworks and best practices, with experience in implementing data security, privacy, and regulatory compliance measures.
  • Advanced proficiency in Python for scripting and data analysis, SQL for querying and optimization, and optionally Scala or Java for big data processing frameworks like Spark.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
