Position Overview: The Clinical Laboratory Technician plays a crucial role in the healthcare system by performing a diverse range of laboratory tasks essential for operational efficiency. Key responsibilities include:

  • Conducting venous and capillary blood collections.
  • Utilizing MEDITECH for order entry and management.
  • Maintaining cleanliness and sterilization of the work environment and equipment.
  • Processing blood specimens and preparing necessary reagents.
  • Executing additional related duties as required.
Work Schedule:

Shifts are 7.5 hours long, covering Monday to Friday, with the possibility of weekends, nights, evenings, and holidays.

Qualifications:
  • A minimum of a High School Diploma or G.E.D. is required, with coursework in English, Mathematics, Biology, and Chemistry.
  • Completion of a certified Medical Laboratory Assistant program is mandatory.
  • Certification as a Medical Laboratory Assistant with the Canadian Society for Medical Laboratory Science (CSMLS) is essential.
  • Proven knowledge of specimen procurement principles, methods, and techniques, along with a solid understanding of Phlebotomy.
  • Willingness to learn and apply necessary computer functions relevant to the role.
  • Ability to demonstrate tact and collaborate effectively as part of a team.
  • Strong planning, organizational, analytical, and communication skills are required.
  • Experience in a laboratory setting is considered an asset.
  • Familiarity with MEDITECH is advantageous.
  • Proficiency in additional languages, particularly French, is a plus.

Note: Internal applicants currently employed as Medical Laboratory Assistants without certification will also be considered.
