The Uro-Oncology Registered Nurse will work in partnership with healthcare professionals in managing patients within the Urology Department at Mount Sinai Hospital. This role involves providing comprehensive nursing care to assigned patients, focusing on assessment, education, prevention, and the maintenance and restoration of health through the nursing process to ensure high-quality patient care.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the attending physician to assist in patient clinics, prepare charts, and perform nursing duties including catheterization, catheter care, and pre/post-operative education.
  • Coordinate, deliver, supervise, and evaluate patient care effectively.
  • Conduct systematic assessments of patients' physical and psychosocial needs.
  • Take responsibility for health education and counseling for patients.
  • Support patients and their families in identifying resources to achieve optimal health.
  • Plan, organize, and prioritize patient care delivery.
  • Engage actively in the overall coordination of patient care.
  • Maintain accurate and appropriate records using electronic charting systems.
  • Perform triage responsibilities, including telephone triage.
  • Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate a wide range of patient care activities related to health promotion and chronic disease management.
  • Undertake additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Valid registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario.
  • Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification.
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN) preferred.
  • At least three years of recent nursing experience in urology, urologic, and oncology patient care.
  • Strong teaching skills with a focus on adult learning principles.
  • Flexibility and superior organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks in a dynamic environment.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment and discretion while handling confidential patient information.
  • Excellent work ethic, professionalism, and reliability; strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate detailed information effectively.
  • Solid knowledge of urology, urologic procedures, surgeries, and patient care.
  • Commitment to professional practice and ongoing personal development.
  • Dedication to shared leadership and collaborative decision-making.
