POSITION SUMMARY This role, based in Winnipeg, involves collaboration with the Plant Manager and Maintenance Manager to guide and develop shift maintenance staff. The position aims to enhance team dynamics and foster a cooperative environment. Effective communication with other departments is essential to identify necessary repairs.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

Ensure the safe operation and upkeep of all utility equipment, including ammonia refrigeration systems, Freon refrigeration units, heating and air conditioning systems, air compressors, boilers, water heating systems, air handling units, and related accessories. Provide leadership on operational projects to fulfill capability, output, facility, and system requirements, enhance efficiency, uphold safety standards, and achieve organizational goals. Assist in negotiating service contracts and oversee the performance of contractors and service personnel for repairs and installations as required. Engage in strategic planning within the department, ensuring all functions align with branch operations and corporate objectives. Demonstrate the ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment. Maintain a logbook documenting daily operations and maintenance activities. Prepare equipment for annual inspections. Manage and maintain building fire safety equipment, including fire sprinklers and extinguishers. Operate and oversee the wastewater treatment facility in compliance with municipal regulations.

KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS

Proficient in mechanical engineering, project management, facilities management, systems engineering, equipment maintenance, design and drafting, and computer applications, with strong leadership capabilities. Ability to manage multiple projects and communicate effectively with all operational departments. Strong leadership qualities and the ability to engage with all organizational levels. Well-informed about safety standards and capable of conveying safety principles. Comprehensive understanding of manufacturing operations, cost implications, and efficiency requirements to support continuous improvement initiatives. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Proficient in computer applications. Demonstrates a sense of urgency when necessary.

Conduct investigations into incidents as necessary, following incident investigation protocols. Report any gas and sewer releases to the appropriate authorities.

FOOD SAFETY & HACCP COMPLIANCE

Ensure strict adherence to standard operating procedures and HACCP requirements.

EXPERIENCE & EDUCATION

Certified 3rd Class Power Engineer. 3-5 years of experience in a manufacturing setting. Experience working within a unionized environment.
