About Our Opportunity

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Forestry Technician to join our team at the Government of Nova Scotia. As a key member of our department, you will play a critical role in delivering programs related to forestry, wildlife, and recreation resource management.

Primary Accountabilities

As a Forestry Technician, you will be responsible for a variety of activities, including:

  • Managing Crown Land and Private Land resources
  • Monitoring compliance with Forest Sustainability Regulations
  • Preventing and suppressing forest fires
  • Conducting wildlife studies, biological surveys, and insect and disease surveys
  • Managing parks operations and property maintenance
  • Processing coastal wharf and mooring applications
  • Providing public liaison and education services
Qualifications and Experience

To be successful in this role, you will require:

  • A recognized two-year forestry or related Natural Resources Technical Diploma
  • Proven knowledge and experience in wildlife management, wood acquisition programs, and related regulations
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work in a combination of office and outdoor environments
  • Valid NS driver's license and access to a motor vehicle

Working Conditions

This role requires a combination of office and outdoor work, with occasional standby and callback duties. You must be physically fit and able to lift and carry fire equipment over rough terrain. A valid diver's license is also required.
