About the Role

As an Instructional Design Specialist, you will play a vital role in shaping the future of learning at Nova Scotia Community College (NSCC). You'll be responsible for crafting engaging and effective online/blended courses and programs that meet the evolving needs of our diverse student population.

Responsibilities
  • Design, develop, implement, coordinate, and evaluate a wide range of instructional materials, activities, and assessment tools for NSCC's online and blended learning environments.
  • Collaborate closely with various internal teams, including fellow Instructional Designers, faculty members, and administrative staff. You'll also engage with external stakeholders such as industry partners, government agencies, and community organizations.
  • Stay at the forefront of educational technology trends and best practices. Provide guidance and support to faculty in developing and delivering high-quality online courses.
Qualifications

To excel in this role, you'll need:

  • A university undergraduate degree and a recognized Professional Certification/Designation in Instructional Design or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • A minimum of five years of full-time equivalent experience in developing, designing, and supporting online courses and programs.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of adult learning principles, assessment strategies, and educational technology. A strong understanding of Universal Design for Learning (UDL) and Culturally Responsive Pedagogy is highly valued.
  • Proficiency in industry-standard software applications, including Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator), and eLearning authoring tools such as Articulate Storyline and Camtasia. Experience with Brightspace or other Learning Management Systems (LMS) is an asset.
