Are you passionate about tackling some of the most challenging technical problems in cloud computing? Do you want to leverage your analytical and engineering expertise in the realm of highly-available replicated databases? If so, this role within Amazon RDS could be the perfect fit for you.
The AWS Relational Database Service (RDS) stands as a leader in the cloud database sector, offering straightforward provisioning and management solutions for databases. With just a few clicks, customers can establish a new database, while our automated control systems manage complex tasks such as scaling, failover, and monitoring. This ease of management presents the challenge of developing sophisticated and dependable control systems. Our solutions oversee a vast number of databases and extensive storage across multiple global data centers, and as our service expands, continuous innovation is essential to meet increasing service demands.
RDS ensures that customers receive databases with exceptional durability and availability. Achieving this level of reliability necessitates the creation of control and monitoring systems that can swiftly identify and address various types of failures, alongside data replication strategies that support diverse geographical distribution and disaster recovery needs. The complexity increases as we manage numerous databases, support multiple database engines (including MySQL, Oracle, PostgreSQL, SQL Server, MariaDB, and Amazon Aurora), and cater to a wide array of customer workloads.
To fulfill our objectives in this domain, we seek a Software Engineer who is eager to delve into and resolve fundamental Computer Science and Systems challenges related to performance, timing, state machine logic, and distributed systems algorithms. Candidates should possess a strong sense of ownership, a commitment to delivering an exceptional customer experience, and outstanding troubleshooting abilities, even in high-pressure environments. If you aspire to contribute to the development of always-on databases in the AWS cloud, this opportunity is for you.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- 3+ years of professional software development experience (non-internship)
- 2+ years of experience in design or architecture of new and existing systems (including design patterns, reliability, and scaling)
- Proficiency in at least one programming language
- 3+ years of comprehensive software development life cycle experience, encompassing coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations
