Director of Privacy and Data Governance

Join the Canadian Bankers Association as we seek a highly skilled Director, Privacy & Data to lead our efforts in protecting sensitive information and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.
About the Role:The Director, Privacy & Data will be responsible for developing and implementing policies and procedures to safeguard customer and employee data. This includes:
- Monitoring and analyzing emerging trends and regulatory developments in the areas of privacy and data protection
- Developing and implementing advocacy plans to promote industry positions on matters of privacy and data
- Leading or supporting projects involving privacy, such as responding to government consultations and enabling the industry to combat evolving financial crime in a privacy-preserving way
- Coordinating industry positions for consistency within the Legal & Risk Division and across the CBA
- Initiating, evaluating, and reporting on emerging trends in privacy and data as they relate to banking in Canada and recommending strategies for the banking industry
- Developing and maintaining positive working relationships with member banks, government officials, regulators, and representatives of other key associations, industry stakeholders, and interest groups
- Advising on privacy and data considerations for the CBA's internal operations, including policies and compliance controls
To be successful in this role, you will need:
- A sound knowledge of the financial services industry, generally, and banks and banking in particular, with in-depth knowledge of the operational and regulatory landscape in the area of privacy and data
- Knowledge of concepts relating to financial crimes, fraud, and anti-money laundering
- Post-secondary education and a minimum 8-10 years of work experience in the privacy & data or relevant field
- Proven success in building consensus across diverse stakeholders, effective interpersonal and presentation skills, and experience working with senior-level staff in government and industry
- Exhibits leadership ability, with exceptional organizational and time management skills
- Excellent writing skills, including letters, briefs, reports, etc.
- Demonstrated analytical ability and critical thinking, with a facility for technical detail
- Knowledge of the policy development and advocacy processes in government
- Working knowledge of French
