As a vital member of the Child and Adolescent program, the Mental Health Support Specialist collaborates within a multidisciplinary team framework, engaging in clinical practices that encompass assessment, therapeutic interventions, and evidence-informed treatment methodologies. A solid understanding of trauma-informed care is essential, along with the ability to integrate crisis management and suicide prevention strategies into daily practice.
Services provided are rooted in principles of recovery, empowerment, and self-determination, forming part of a broader continuum of mental health support. Clinicians operate within a collaborative care model, offering time-sensitive, goal-oriented interventions based on informed consent and voluntary participation. The Mental Health Support Specialist is expected to exercise independent judgment in prioritizing tasks and determining appropriate methods of intervention.
Essential Qualifications- Graduation from an accredited post-secondary program in Health-Related Social Sciences (e.g., BSW, BScMH, OT, MACP, BScPN, BN, RPN). Other relevant educational backgrounds may be considered.
- A Master's degree is preferred, with qualifications as a Psychiatric Nurse, Occupational Therapist, Clinical Social Worker, Family Therapist, or equivalent.
- Active professional license and registration as mandated by provincial regulations.
- Certification in Applied Suicide Intervention Skills (ASIST).
- A minimum of two years' experience in delivering evidence-based therapy to adults; three to five years is preferred.
- Demonstrated expertise in clinical assessment, case formulation, and psychotropic medication management.
- Experience in trauma-informed care and various therapeutic models such as CBT and DBT.
- Proficiency in conducting psychosocial assessments and mental status evaluations.
- Knowledge of child and adolescent development, including mental health issues and risk assessment strategies.
- Commitment to respecting and promoting cultural diversity.
- Fluency in both official languages is essential for designated bilingual roles.
- Proven ability to meet the physical and mental demands of the position.
- Strong adherence to confidentiality standards.
- Consistent work attendance and performance record.
- A valid Class 5 driver's license and access to a fully insured vehicle are required.
