Compensation Structure

Positions such as Teaching Assistant, Course Coordinator, and Lab Demonstrator are compensated based on the qualifications held by the employee:

  • Individuals without a 4-year honours degree or a 3-year pass degree will receive the undergraduate rate.
  • Those with a 4-year honours degree or a 3-year pass degree will be compensated at the graduate rate.
  • Additional duties required of a Teaching Assistant will be compensated at the appropriate Teaching Assistant rate.

Responsibilities

The responsibilities of the Teaching Assistant are defined in accordance with Article 22 of the CUPE Local 4207, Unit 1, Collective Agreement. These include scheduled interaction with students and non-classroom activities such as:

  • Preparation of seminar materials
  • Student consultations
  • Grading and marking
  • Examination proctoring
  • Attending lectures
  • Holding office hours
  • Other course administration tasks as required

Qualifications

  • Applicants must have achieved a minimum of 80% in the relevant course.
  • Applicants should be at least in their fourth year of study in Computer Science, maintaining a major average of 75%, or have completed a Computer Science degree.
  • The ideal candidate will possess effective communication skills, demonstrating the ability to convey subject material clearly to students, punctuality in attending classes, and the capability to meet deadlines.
