As an integral member of a multidisciplinary team, the Cardiac Care Nurse is tasked with the assessment, planning, execution, and evaluation of patient care specific to cardiac surgical services. This role involves making informed decisions in partnership with a diverse healthcare team. The successful candidate will encounter a stimulating environment encompassing Adult & Pediatric Cardiac Surgery, Organ Transplantation, Ventricular Assist Devices (VAD), and various pioneering procedures.

Role Overview:

As a Cardiac Care Nurse (RN), you will deliver a comprehensive range of nursing services to patients, families, and communities, ensuring their safety and well-being. Your responsibilities will include employing nursing methodologies, engaging in critical thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making, as well as providing education, support, and advocacy for patients and their families. You will assume a leadership role in promoting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health enhancement, and maintenance. Your commitment will ensure the delivery of safe, high-quality, patient-centered care, reflecting the core values and vision of Alberta Health Services.

Qualifications Required:

Completion of an accredited nursing education program is essential. You must be actively registered or eligible for registration with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP) certification is required. If you have not practiced as a Registered Nurse in the past five years, completion of specific refresher courses is necessary.

Additional Qualifications:

Proven excellence in assessment, organizational, and patient care competencies is required. Strong communication skills for conveying findings clearly and accurately are essential. Demonstrated interpersonal and problem-solving abilities, along with a proactive, adaptable approach in a team environment, are crucial. Excellent verbal and written communication skills are mandatory. Participation and leadership in relevant activities at various organizational levels are expected. Availability for on-call duties is a requirement. A minimum of full-time experience in the Cardiac Operating Room within the last year is necessary, along with a perioperative course certificate.

Preferred Qualifications:

A Bachelor of Science in Nursing is preferred.
