Job Title: Laboratory Assistant Data Entry Clerk

Provincial Laboratory Medicine Services is seeking a skilled Laboratory Assistant Data Entry Clerk to join our team in Vancouver, BC.

Job Summary:

We are looking for a detail-oriented and organized individual to assist with laboratory testing and data entry. The successful candidate will be responsible for receiving patients, collecting blood specimens, preparing specimens for analysis, and processing data entry.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Receive patients by examining test requisitions, confirming patient demographics, and entering data into the computer system.
  • Collect blood specimens from patients, label specimens, and dispose of sharps.
  • Prepare specimens for analysis by checking identification, separating serum or plasma, and preparing blood films.
  • Process specimens by receiving, sorting, labeling, and logging data into the computer database.
  • Send specimens to referral laboratories by logging information, packaging specimens, and placing them in the designated pick-up area.
  • Perform receptionist duties, including answering phones, responding to inquiries, and relaying messages.
  • Print labels, computer-generated blood collection lists, and reports by entering information into the computer system.
  • Maintain work areas by cleaning, disinfecting, and organizing equipment and supplies.
  • Schedule and book patient appointments using a computerized scheduling system.
  • Perform ECG testing by attaching electrodes, running the ECG, and printing reports.
Requirements:
  • Grade 12 and completion of a recognized Lab Assistant training program, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to deal with others effectively and physically perform the duties of the position.
  • Ability to organize work and operate related equipment.
  • Commitment to upholding the shared responsibility of creating lasting and meaningful reconciliation in Canada.
