About the Opportunity

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Medical Laboratory Assistant to join our team at Nova Scotia Health Authority. As a Medical Laboratory Assistant, you will play a critical role in supporting the pre and post-analytical phases of testing, ensuring accurate and efficient specimen handling and processing.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform various functions related to specimen procurement, receipt, and processing
  • Enter data accurately and efficiently
  • Prepare media, reagents, and smears
  • Manage supplies and troubleshoot equipment
  • Provide excellent customer service and interact with various stakeholders

Requirements:

  • Recognized Medical Laboratory Assistant Program or equivalent
  • Successful completion of the Medical Laboratory Assistant examinations of the Canadian Society of Medical Laboratory Science (CSMLS) and current registration with CSMLS
  • Ability to travel to local indigenous communities
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Basic understanding of medical terminology
  • Manual dexterity to handle sharp instruments and small objects
  • Ability to accurately number and label specimens and file slides and requisitions
  • Ability to adapt to updates and changes in operating procedures
  • Basic computer skills, Meditech experience preferred
  • Access to reliable transportation
  • Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred

We offer a competitive salary of $26.27 per hour and a comprehensive benefits package, including health, dental, travel, long-term disability, and life insurance coverage, as well as a defined benefit pension plan.

Hours

Permanent, Full-Time Position; 75 Hours Bi-weekly
