Join Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) as a Recreation Therapist
Vancouver Coastal Health is seeking a dedicated Recreation Therapist to become part of the Transitional Long Term Care team. This role is essential in providing therapeutic recreation services to our clients.
Responsibilities of the Recreation Therapist include:
Collaborating within a multidisciplinary team to deliver Recreation Therapy services tailored to specific Long Term Care environments and client needs. Engaging in quality enhancement and risk management initiatives, as well as participating in educational and research activities. Conducting Recreation Therapy evaluations and interventions as necessary, while also guiding students, staff, and volunteers.Required Qualifications
Education & Experience
A Bachelor's degree in Therapeutic Recreation or Leisure Studies from an accredited institution, along with two (2) years of relevant experience with the designated population, including one (1) year of supervisory experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Certification in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and Emergency First Aid. Eligibility for certification and CTRS credential with the National Council for Therapeutic Recreation Certification (NCTRC).Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
In-depth understanding of evidence-based practices in Recreation Therapy relevant to health issues and treatment. Strong grasp of therapeutic recreation theories, leisure studies, social psychology, and contemporary practices. Extensive knowledge of recreation therapy principles within a client and family-centered care framework. Proficient in organizing therapeutic recreation services, including the development of operational plans. Familiarity with other healthcare disciplines and their contributions to client care. Broad understanding of research methodologies and processes. Proven ability to work effectively as a team member, leader, and facilitator. Capability to instruct clients and colleagues in both individual and group settings. Effective communication skills with colleagues, healthcare staff, clients, and their families. Ability to integrate Recreation Therapy concepts across various settings. Competence in working independently and collaboratively. Skill in providing effective consultation and establishing workload priorities. Physical capability to fulfill the duties of the position. Proficiency in using equipment and techniques relevant to treating clients with rehabilitation needs or mental health issues. Documented experience as a research investigator or published researcher. Basic computer skills.Additional Information
Work hours, including days off and location, may vary based on operational needs and collective agreements. Successful candidates may need to undergo a Criminal Records Review Check.
