Patient Care Aide, Medical Inpatient

Job Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Patient Care Aide to join our team at BC Children's Hospital. As a Patient Care Aide, you will play a vital role in providing exceptional care to our patients and their families.
Key Responsibilities
- Establish and maintain therapeutic relationships with patients/clients/families and provide support following established care plans.
- Assist in the delivery of nursing care under the functional direction of a Registered Nurse and perform duties such as recording of vital signs, administering dressings, and assisting with personal hygiene.
- Respond to call bells/alarms by alerting the appropriate healthcare team member and/or assisting as necessary.
- Observe and monitor patient/client progress, symptoms, and behavioral changes and report significant observations to the Registered Nurse or designate.
- Utilize mechanical aides to transport clients and provide assistance with positioning, lifting, and/or transferring clients.
- Maintain a clean and safe environment, including ensuring call lights/bells are within reach, making beds, and applying side-rail requirements.
- Prepare room for discharge cleaning and/or assist in room setup, including removing bed linen and forwarding to laundry.
- Participate in team discussions and/or related training sessions, including attending meetings to provide/receive information and provide input regarding improvements to client care.
- Retrieve lab results and patient information from Hospital systems as required.
- Perform related clerical duties, including answering telephones, providing general information, and maintaining patient flow.
Requirements
- Grade 10 plus graduation from a recognized Nursing Assistant Program or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Registration with the BC Care Aide Registry.
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to organize work and prioritize workload.
- Ability to deal with others effectively.
- Ability to operate related equipment.
- Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
- Commitment to develop knowledge and understanding of legislative obligations and provincial commitments found in the foundational documents, including Truth & Reconciliation Commission's Calls to Action (2015), In Plain Sight (2020), BC's Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (2019), United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP), Reclaiming Power and Place Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women & Girls Calls for Justice (2019), the Declaration Act Action Plan, and Remembering Keegan: A First Nations Case Study.
