Office Technical Leader, Assurance

BDO Canada's Kitchener-Waterloo group of offices is seeking an Office Technical Leader to join our growing team. In this role, the successful candidate will have the skills, expertise, and specialized knowledge to handle accounting and assurance work and deliver top-notch service to our BDO Canada teams and clients.

The Office Technical Leader will report to the Group Firm Technical Leader(s) and their respective People Leader.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide technical assistance related to assurance and accounting matters for assurance engagements and other special engagements.
  • Review complex accounting and assurance consultations, or assist in their preparation.
  • Conduct financial statement reviews for clients engaged in assurance engagements.
  • Perform and assist other technical team members in quality reviews of assurance files.
  • Support and implement firm-wide initiatives related to the accounting and assurance business line.
  • Offer insights and address questions concerning firm programs, policies, processes, resources, and tools.
  • Provide effective ad hoc and structured training for partners and staff, including file coaching, live instructor-led training, web-based training, and virtual instructor-led training.

Your Experience and Education

  • Currently a Manager/Senior Manager, or an equivalent role with a CPA-CA designation and a minimum of three years of post-qualification experience, including two years of experience in managing and reviewing files in a professional public accounting services firm, specifically in the field of accounting and assurance.
  • Proficiency in Canadian assurance standards.
  • Experience in writing reports, including issue consultation memos, management letters, and publications.
  • Basic understanding of other standards, policies, and procedures that relate to audit and assurance engagements, including areas such as risk management, independence, tax, and more.
