The Faculty of Arts & Science is seeking applications for anticipated course offerings in the upcoming academic terms:

Course: HUMN-3001: Reading Popular Culture (0.5 credit)

COURSE OVERVIEW: This course explores mass media as a prevalent cultural force that shapes societal norms while providing resources for social change and continuity. The focus is on fostering critical reflection and discussion related to various popular cultural genres within contemporary Canadian and global contexts. By examining genres such as soap operas, science fiction, fashion, and dance music, students will engage with diverse analytical frameworks to interrogate the politics of representation, distribution, production, and consumption.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: Teaching and related duties may encompass but are not limited to: developing course outlines, preparing and delivering lectures, conducting critiques, grading assignments, and performing mid-term and final evaluations. Responsibilities also include ensuring health and safety standards and adhering to academic and curricular requirements.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

A terminal degree in art, design, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience. Previous teaching experience at the post-secondary level is advantageous; relevant experience will also be considered. Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills. Proven leadership abilities and a commitment to fostering a respectful and inclusive environment for students, staff, and faculty.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Sessional appointments are fixed-term contracts. Compensation is based on a per-course pay scale, with a salary of $6,000 per 0.5 credit course, plus 7% in lieu of benefits and vacation pay, in accordance with the Employment Standards Act. These positions are contingent upon budget approval and satisfactory enrollment levels.
