About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Embedded Flight Software Engineer to join our team at Sierra Space. As a key member of our Orbital Mission and Services (OMS) division, you will be responsible for designing and developing flight software for spacecraft missions, including civilian and DoD applications.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and develop flight software for spacecraft missions, including mission concepts, system requirements, and satellite capabilities.
  • Ensure that customer requirements are met by making data-driven decisions in architecting, implementing, and testing the design in a testbed prototype and subsequent delivery of the flight code.
  • Contribute to analyses of various architectures, including space vehicles, satellites, sensors, communications, and ground infrastructure, and evolve or create new approaches based on analysis results.
  • Evaluate the mission effectiveness of candidate approaches, balancing mission objectives against factors such as development and lifecycle costs.
Requirements
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or other related discipline, and typically 6 or more years of relevant experience.
  • Related experience may be considered in lieu of required education.
  • A higher-level degree may substitute for experience.
  • Basic knowledge of Computer Aided Engineering tools.
  • Conceptual understanding of engineering principles and practices.
  • Familiarity working in multi-disciplinary teams.
  • An active Top Secret with SCI eligibility U.S. Security Clearance is required.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Strong technical understanding of C++.
  • Knowledge of memory, timing, and throughput constraints in an embedded system and the ability to create robust and sound designs that address these issues.
  • Familiarity with industry standard software languages such as Python.
  • Experience with spacecraft flight software development.
  • Demonstrated experience leading a team developing software.
  • Experience with software tools for requirements tracking, code reviews, static analysis, library and artifact repository, and automated build.
  • Knowledge of software development methodologies such as Agile/Scrum.
  • Experience and knowledge of Software Design Patterns.
  • Experience using SysML/UML to create Software Designs.
  • Experience testing and debugging on both Software in the Loop (SITL) and Hardware in the Loop (HITL, on target platform) environments.
  • Experience with Configuration Management platforms (GIT, SVN).
  • Experience developing on a Real Time Operating System (VxWorks preferred).
What We Offer

At Sierra Space, we offer a competitive salary range of $104,000 to $219,216, depending on experience. We also offer a generous benefit package, including medical, dental, and vision plans, 401(k) with 150% match up to 8%, life insurance, 3 weeks paid time off, tuition reimbursement, and more.
