Type: Temporary Support Staff
Employment Status: Part-Time
Work Arrangements: This role involves providing essential laboratory support for introductory astronomy courses. The position is designed for individuals who can commit to a minimum of 6 hours per week.
Key Responsibilities- Deliver laboratory instruction and demonstrations:
- Guide students through the laboratory aspects of physics courses.
- Showcase the proper use of laboratory equipment.
- Instruct on safety protocols within the lab environment.
- Oversee student activities in the lab to ensure adherence to safety guidelines.
- Develop and implement effective strategies to enhance student learning.
- Assess student performance:
- Review and evaluate student submissions and lab performance.
- Assign final grades based on laboratory assessments.
- Offer additional support to students outside of scheduled lab times.
- Prepare laboratory materials:
- Evaluate new information to enhance student learning experiences.
- Design and assess laboratory quizzes and examinations.
- Maintain and update laboratory manuals.
- Create supplementary instructional resources.
- Research and develop experiments for student engagement.
- Additional Duties:
- Maintain and update laboratory report sheets.
- Keep accurate records of laboratory grades.
- Set up and ensure the functionality of laboratory equipment.
- Contribute to the revision of laboratory materials and manuals.
- Stay informed about advancements in physics and laboratory instruction.
- Proficient in English (both written and verbal).
- B.Sc. in Physics or equivalent experience.
- Strong understanding of course content and laboratory equipment maintenance.
- Effective communication skills.
- Experience in public speaking and preparing lab assignments.
- Knowledge of preventative measures for laboratory equipment.
- Ability to stay current in the field of Physics.
- Proven skills in demonstrating laboratory techniques.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Maintain confidentiality in all aspects of the role.
- Physical capability to set up laboratory equipment, including lifting up to 40 lbs.
