Job Description

We are seeking a highly experienced and skilled professional to join our team as a Head of Industry Relations and Operations in Canada. This role will be responsible for building and managing strategic relationships with payment industry partners, defining and executing on a comprehensive payments strategy, and overseeing partnership opportunities and commercial discussions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Build and manage strategic relationships with payment industry partners (acquirers, banks, card networks, and industry bodies) in Canada
  • Define and execute on a comprehensive payments strategy for Square in the rapidly evolving mobile payments and card acceptance space
  • Oversee, negotiate, and execute on partnership opportunities and commercial discussions to enable our financial capabilities in Canada
  • Understand Square's competitive position and implement programs to further and improve payments products, services, and strategic objectives
  • Lead and support management for Square's strategic industry initiatives in Canada, including fostering the partner engagement required to enable new products and platforms

Requirements

  • 12 years of experience with a solid understanding of the payment industry and its current evolution across Canada
  • The ability to lead cross-functional projects and interact at all levels with diverse roles, including engineers, business partners, and executive leadership
  • Top-notch cross-functional skills to collaborate with your team, internal and external partners to achieve strategic results
  • Strong relationship management skills and the demonstrated ability to negotiate complex commercial agreements, coupled with the ability to develop consensus
  • The successful candidate will have a demonstrated ability to deal with ambiguity, think strategically and analytically about business, product, and technical challenges
  • Drive to make an impact and entrepreneurial spirit are musts
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills, with the ability to make strong arguments supporting Square's position with internal and external executive stakeholders
  • Experience working with globally distributed teams
