Emergency Response Instructor

Position Overview
The Marine Institute is seeking a dedicated Instructor to join the Safety & Emergency Response Training (SERT) Centre. This role involves providing comprehensive theoretical and practical training in various certification courses, including NFPA and industrial safety programs.
Key Responsibilities
The selected candidate will be responsible for:
- Delivering classroom instruction complemented by practical demonstrations in firefighting and emergency response.
- Conducting hands-on training sessions, including live fire exercises and industrial emergency response drills.
- Overseeing practical exercises to ensure participant safety and adherence to risk management protocols.
- Assisting in marine survival training in controlled aquatic environments.
- Performing administrative tasks such as course development and maintenance of training equipment.
- Collaborating with the Director of OSSC to ensure compliance with relevant standards and guidelines.
Qualifications
Candidates must possess:
- A minimum of six years of relevant experience in firefighting or emergency response.
- Valid NFPA certifications, including NFPA 1001 Level 2, NFPA 1041, NFPA 1021, and NFPA 1002.
- A college-level certification in the emergency response field or an equivalent qualification.
- A valid industry medical certificate or approved equivalent.
- Proven ability to operate effectively in aquatic environments.
Preference will be given to individuals with advanced education, relevant industry certifications, prior teaching experience, and additional qualifications. Certifications from recognized organizations for first aid training and other safety programs will be considered advantageous.
Compensation
Salary will be determined in accordance with the Marine Institute Instructors' Collective Agreement.
