Overview

The Manitoba Government is seeking dedicated and enthusiastic individuals to join our team for a summer role focused on engineering and operational support. We pride ourselves on fostering a collaborative work environment and providing comprehensive on-the-job training. These positions are temporary, with employment lasting until the conclusion of the construction season.

Employment Conditions:

  1. Must have legal authorization to work in Canada.
  2. Must hold and maintain a valid Manitoba Class 5 driver's license.
  3. Must be equipped to wear basic Personal Protective Equipment, including a hard hat, safety vest, and steel-toed footwear.
  4. Must be capable of traveling to various worksites, including during nighttime, using ground or air transportation, and may require overnight stays in accommodations.
  5. Must be available to work extended hours, including evenings, weekends, and statutory holidays, and be prepared for call-outs and adverse weather conditions.
  6. Must possess the physical ability to perform all job-related tasks, including working in outdoor environments with potential hazards as outlined in the OSHRM Safe Work Practices.

Qualifications:

Essential Skills:

  1. Competence in performing basic mathematical calculations.
  2. Understanding of Occupational Safety, Health, and Risk Management principles.
  3. Strong interpersonal skills for effective and courteous verbal communication.
  4. Clear and concise written communication abilities.
  5. Capability to collaborate effectively within a team setting.
  6. Ability to work independently when required.
  7. Prior experience in outdoor work and manual labor.

Preferred Skills:

  1. Familiarity with the Microsoft Office software suite.
  2. Knowledge of construction procedures and guidelines relevant to this role, including surveying, material testing, and quality assurance.

Responsibilities:

The Civil Engineering Support Technician will report to the Highway Project Technologist and receive guidance from the Highway Construction Technician. The role involves performing fundamental technical tasks while adhering to departmental standards, specifications, policies, and procedures. Typical responsibilities may include assisting with surveys, quality checks, material scaling, flagging operations, and project support.
