Lead Electrical Design Engineer

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop engineering designs for cutting-edge scientific devices that incorporate electromechanical systems, digital data acquisition, and real-time control and analysis.
  • Create mixed signal (analog and digital) electronic circuits and printed circuit boards (PCBs).
  • Design and implement embedded applications, including firmware development.
  • Formulate and validate digital signal processing algorithms.
  • Establish manufacturing processes and testing protocols.
  • Research and evaluate technologies from manufacturing partners.
  • Support the production team in deploying automated hardware and system testing strategies.
  • Conduct experimental validation studies for product development.
  • Provide mentorship to junior electrical engineers and interns.
  • Occasionally assist technical support and production teams in resolving complex challenges.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • At least 3 years of relevant industry experience.
  • Proficiency in C and C++ programming languages.
  • Familiarity with VHDL programming.
  • Experience using digital oscilloscopes and logic analyzers.
  • Background in designing and developing microprocessor-based instrumentation systems.
  • Knowledge of UART, TCP/IP, SPI, and PWM protocols.
  • Proficient in electrical schematic design and PCB layout (e.g., Altium Designer).
  • Hands-on experience with prototype development, including surface-mount soldering.
  • Competence in general computing, including Microsoft Office applications.
  • Strong electrical engineering skills and creativity demonstrated through previous work, education, or personal projects.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and collaboratively.
  • Detail-oriented with strong analytical skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English and French.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in biomedical instrumentation.
  • Previous mentoring experience with junior engineers.
  • Knowledge of Real-Time Operating Systems (RTOS).
  • Familiarity with version control systems (e.g., Subversion).
  • Experience with Agile project management methodologies.
  • Background in embedded Linux development.
