Project Overview

The Woodfibre LNG initiative is situated approximately 7 km west-southwest of Squamish, British Columbia. This project encompasses the establishment and operation of a liquefied natural gas (LNG) export facility on the site of the former Woodfibre pulp mill, designed to have a storage capacity of 250,000 m3 and an annual production of around 2.1 million tons of LNG.

Role Overview

The Site Cost Engineer plays a pivotal role in overseeing and managing all financial aspects related to a construction or project site. This position entails monitoring expenditures, generating cost reports, and ensuring adherence to budgetary constraints. The Site Cost Engineer collaborates closely with the Cost Manager, project leaders, procurement teams, and various stakeholders to guarantee precise cost forecasting and efficient budget management.

Key Responsibilities:

Cost Management and Oversight:

  • Establish and enforce cost control protocols and methodologies.
  • Track project spending and confirm alignment with the sanctioned budget.
  • Examine and authorize project-related invoices and purchase orders.
  • Detect cost discrepancies and propose corrective measures.

Financial Reporting:

  • Compile and deliver regular financial reports to project management and stakeholders.
  • Maintain comprehensive and current financial records and documentation.
  • Create detailed cost forecasts and variance analyses.
  • Contribute to financial and progress reporting.

Budgeting and Financial Forecasting:

  • Assist in formulating project budgets and financial estimates.
  • Update cost forecasts based on project developments and modifications.
  • Analyze financial trends and recommend cost-reduction strategies.
  • Support project leaders in drafting cost-related segments of project proposals.

Procurement and Subcontractor Oversight:

  • Collaborate with the procurement team to ensure cost-efficient purchasing and contracting.
  • Assess subcontractor bids and negotiate pricing.
  • Supervise subcontractor expenses and ensure compliance with budgetary limits.
  • Conduct financial reviews and audits of subcontractor invoices.

Change Management:

  • Assess financial implications of project modifications and variations.
  • Prepare financial estimates for change orders and assist in change management processes.
  • Revise project cost baselines to reflect approved modifications.

Risk Management:

  • Identify and evaluate cost-related risks and uncertainties.
  • Develop strategies for risk mitigation and contingency planning.
  • Monitor and report on the financial impact of identified risks.

Collaboration and Communication:

  • Work in conjunction with project managers, engineers, and other stakeholders to ensure accurate financial tracking and reporting.
  • Clearly communicate financial information to project teams and stakeholders.
  • Promote effective teamwork and communication across project teams.

Qualifications:

Essential Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, construction management, finance, or a related discipline.
  • Demonstrated experience in cost engineering, financial oversight, or project management, ideally within the construction or engineering sector.
  • Proficiency in financial management software and tools (e.g., SAP, Primavera, PRISM, EcoSys, CostX, etc.).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment.
  • Meticulous attention to detail and accuracy.

  • Experience collaborating with large, multidisciplinary teams and contractors in diverse environments is advantageous.

  • This position is based in Squamish, BC (Project Site), with occasional time spent at the EPC contractor's office and the corporate office.
