Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct Privacy Impact Assessments (PIAs) for various projects and initiatives in alignment with City policies and relevant legislation.
  • Assess when a full PIA or privacy consultation is necessary for a project or process change.
  • Support business units throughout the PIA process, from initial intake to the implementation of risk mitigation strategies.
  • Assist teams in addressing concerns related to personal information protection during the PIA process.
  • Lead project teams in implementing and monitoring risk mitigation activities.
  • Act as the privacy subject matter expert, providing guidance on the design and development of new products in compliance with privacy policies and regulations.
  • Research technology and vendor privacy policies to identify risks and recommend mitigations.
  • Perform follow-up and monitoring activities to ensure ongoing compliance.
  • Serve as the primary resource for inquiries related to routine disclosure and privacy issues.
  • Provide direction to business units on safeguarding personal information throughout its lifecycle.
  • Identify sources of disclosed information and collaborate with custodians to streamline approval processes for public release.
  • Prepare Assess Impact Assessment (AIA) documentation, including information flow diagrams and risk mitigation plans, to ensure transparency in proactive disclosures.
  • Assist in developing awareness and training materials.
  • Deliver training sessions on privacy processes, best practices, and compliance to various business areas.
  • Monitor government FOIP-related updates and make recommendations based on emerging trends and legal challenges.
  • Analyze data and prepare reports to support the delivery of privacy programs and initiatives.

Qualifications

  • A degree in Arts, Business, Information Management, Public Policy, or a related field, with a minimum of 3 years of experience in privacy legislation.
  • Strong understanding of freedom of information and privacy principles, with proven experience in research and analysis of legislation.
  • Professional certifications such as Certified Information Privacy Professional for Canada (CIPP/C) or Certified Information Privacy Manager (CIPM) are advantageous.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively across teams, fostering effective relationships at all organizational levels.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
