About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Cathodic Protection Technician to join our team at FortisBC. As a key member of our maintenance team, you will be responsible for ensuring the integrity of our buried pipelines through the installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of cathodic protection systems.

Key Responsibilities
  • Travel to various locations to monitor and test cathodic protection systems, utilizing company vehicles and equipment.
  • Develop and implement plans to maintain and install cathodic protection systems, ensuring compliance with established standards and regulations.
  • Analyze cathodic protection measurements to identify areas of non-compliance and recommend corrective actions.
  • Utilize specialized equipment to assess and troubleshoot cathodic protection systems, including direct current and alternating current electrical interference.
  • Investigate and analyze electrical interference issues, conducting surveys and interpreting data to determine impact on cathodic protection and safety.
  • Respond to calls from FortisBC crews, municipalities, and contractors to provide guidance on cathodic protection systems.
  • Input, extract, and maintain data from various systems, including the Corrosion Data Management System and Automated Mapping/Facilities Management computerized record and mapping systems.
  • Prepare reports and documents, including repair procedures and instructions, to ensure compliance with established procedures.
  • Act as a representative of FortisBC, responding to customer queries and explaining work requirements.
Requirements
  • Recognized as a Certified Cathodic Protection Tester (CP1) by the National Association of Corrosion Engineering (N.A.C.E.) and successful completion of Coating Inspection Program Level 1.
  • Four (4) years directly related experience.
  • Working knowledge of cathodic protection systems, corrosion theories, and electrical interference.
  • Ability to operate Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, and Outlook.
  • Valid BC Driver's License with a safe driving record.
