Role Overview

Commitment to Safety and Compliance

Oversee security personnel and contracts to fulfill safety objectives. Ensure compliance with regulations concerning controlled substances and other legal requirements. Act as a primary responder to security incidents, particularly during non-standard hours. Identify potential risks and implement necessary precautions. Lead training initiatives to ensure staff operate safely and efficiently, utilizing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE). Conduct thorough investigations of accidents and incidents to determine root causes and corrective measures. Foster a proactive approach to identifying and mitigating workplace hazards. Enforce health and safety policies to correct unsafe practices. Maintain organized workspaces, ensuring everything is in its designated place. Regularly audit work and storage areas for compliance with established policies.

Strategic Planning and Communication

Assess and provide recommendations on personnel, skills, and capital projects in a dynamic environment. Understand and anticipate the operational needs of facilities and staff. Contribute insights on facility expansion and operational plans. Communicate strategies and recommendations effectively to all management levels. Enhance the use of Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) to protect and maintain assets.

Supervision of Maintenance Personnel

Ensure equitable treatment of all team members in accordance with company policies. Optimize staffing levels to meet operational demands and enhance productivity. Manage attendance, leave requests, and vacation schedules. Maintain adequate training programs for staff development. Ensure adherence to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and standardized work practices. Oversee the performance appraisal process, including setting objectives and conducting reviews. Manage performance improvement initiatives, providing timely feedback and coaching. Address issues with team members and liaise with Human Resources as necessary.

Management of Facilities and Equipment

Ensure maintenance and repair of facilities, production equipment, and HVAC systems. Oversee the management of external contractors and daily maintenance activities. Understand production requirements to ensure efficient operations. Implement a Total Productive Maintenance program to maximize operational efficiency.

Achievement of Performance Metrics

Comprehend safety, quality, delivery, and cost performance targets to support operational objectives. Supervise staff activities, scheduling workloads to meet project deadlines. Identify and address significant operational issues promptly. Monitor key performance indicators and develop action plans to address gaps. Create and manage budgets to achieve financial targets.

Continuous Improvement Initiatives

Identify opportunities for improvement and participate in establishing performance metrics. Champion continuous improvement programs within the team. Maintain visual management processes across the organization. Lead or participate in specific continuous improvement projects and standardization efforts. Promote a culture of continuous improvement throughout the organization.

Additional Responsibilities

Undertake other duties and projects as assigned.

Qualifications

Educational Background

Post-secondary degree or diploma in Applied Science, preferably in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering.

Or

Skilled trade certification in Electrician, Millwright, Plumbing, or HVAC. 3-5 years of relevant management or supervisory experience.
