Position Overview
The City of Ottawa is seeking a dedicated Vehicle Systems Engineer to join our Transit Engineering Services team. This role involves overseeing the performance and maintenance of vehicle systems, ensuring high standards of reliability and safety for our transit fleet.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of vehicle maintenance systems.
- Develop quality metrics to assess the integrity of engineering processes related to vehicle systems.
- Serve as the primary technical contact for all inquiries and issues concerning the vehicle fleet.
- Analyze reliability trends and issues for both new and existing vehicles.
- Guide fleet expansion initiatives and provide technical insights on capital improvement projects.
- Conduct thorough technical analyses of system failures and operational requirements.
- Support the procurement process by providing technical specifications and reviewing design submissions.
- Assist in tracking vehicle quality during procurement and maintenance phases.
- Lead investigations into operational and system-related issues, providing detailed reporting and root cause analysis.
- Collaborate with technical committees and project teams to address engineering challenges impacting transit operations.
Qualifications
- A Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Systems Engineering.
- A minimum of seven years of experience in rail vehicle engineering, maintenance, and operations.
- Familiarity with rail control systems and integrated control systems is preferred.
- Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation is required.
Knowledge and Skills
- Understanding of urban transit vehicle systems and their mechanical, electrical, and electronic components.
- Proficiency in systems engineering principles and project management methodologies.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to effectively communicate technical information.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
- Competence in Microsoft Office and engineering applications.
