Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Sous Chef to join our culinary team at the University of Saskatchewan. As a key member of our senior kitchen leadership team, you will play a vital role in ensuring the efficient operation of our kitchen departments, developing and implementing menu items and food programs, and contributing to the growth and development of our kitchen team.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide leadership and supervision to kitchen staff, ensuring efficient operations and a positive work environment.
  • Maintain high standards of food quality, presentation, and customer service.
  • Develop and implement menu items and food programs, working closely with the Executive Chef and Executive Sous Chef.
  • Contribute to the ongoing mentoring, training, and learning of kitchen staff.
  • Assist in inventory controls, ensuring proper rotation of fridges and storage areas to minimize waste.
  • Act as a liaison between internal departments and stakeholders, maintaining effective communication and collaboration.
  • Ensure compliance with food safety and occupational health and safety standards.
  • Perform medium to moderate lifting and work in a fast-paced kitchen environment.
Requirements
  • Red Seal Journeyman's Cook Certificate required.
  • Minimum 7 years of related culinary experience, including 3 years of supervisory experience.
  • Catering and event experience required.
  • Strong hands-on culinary skills, menu and recipe development, and leadership abilities.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work independently and collaboratively as a team member.
