Position Overview

This role involves assisting in the preparation and delivery of educational sessions in accordance with a structured framework provided by the instructor. The position requires participation in collaborative meetings to discuss and report on classroom activities.

Course Focus

The curriculum emphasizes the integration of listening, reading, speaking, and writing skills, alongside grammar review, vocabulary enhancement, study techniques, IT resource utilization, learning strategies, and intercultural understanding. The pedagogical approach is centered on student engagement, interactive learning, and task-oriented methodologies, with a focus on formative assessments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Facilitate group activities using a student-focused, task-oriented methodology.
  • Explain essential aspects of the English language, including verb systems, sentence structures, and academic terminology to learners of English as a second language.
  • Attend and contribute to team meetings, providing updates on class progress and student engagement.

Qualifications

Candidates should possess the ability to foster collaborative learning environments and have a solid understanding of the English language. Previous experience in ESL instruction and classroom management is preferred, along with familiarity with multimedia teaching tools. An interview may be required as part of the selection process.

Additional Notes

This position is exclusively for on-site teaching at the University of Ottawa. All staff members are required to complete mandatory training sessions in compliance with provincial regulations. The list of obligations may be subject to change based on legal requirements.
