Position Overview

The Recreation and Culture Services department is committed to fostering vibrant, healthy, and engaged communities by offering facilities and programs that encourage participation in recreational activities. Key responsibilities of this role include:

  • Assessing community recreation needs and interests.
  • Designing and implementing recreational opportunities that align with these needs.
  • Overseeing the maintenance and operation of recreational and cultural facilities.
  • Coordinating the use of spaces for external community providers and groups.

Reporting to the Recreation Supervisor and under the guidance of the Recreation Programmer, the Lead Coordinator for Youth Programs is tasked with supervising youth drop-in programs at the City of Barrie's Youth Centres. This role involves monitoring program activities, leading events, and providing mentorship to Youth Program Leaders. The position is essential for delivering engaging programs tailored for the youth of Barrie.

Educational Requirements

  • Certification in HIGH FIVE Principles of Healthy Child Development from HIGH FIVE National within three (3) months of employment.

Experience Requirements

  • A minimum of six (6) months of part-time experience or three (3) months of full-time experience working with children and/or youth aged nine (9) and older, in roles related to the primary responsibilities outlined above.

Skills and Abilities

  • Proven ability to maintain exemplary public relations.
  • Capability to act in alignment with corporate goals, vision, mission, and values.
  • Proficiency in managing challenging youth interactions and resolving conflicts in a professional manner.
  • Discretion and judgment in handling sensitive and confidential information.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal oversight.
  • Strong oral and written communication, interpersonal, and customer service skills.
  • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required.

Employment Conditions

  • Certifications in Standard First Aid, CPR Level C, and Automated External Defibrillator (AED).
  • Successful completion of a Criminal Record Check.

Additional Information

Compensation: This is a casual part-time non-union position with an hourly pay range of $18.64 to $22.73.

Work Hours: The typical work schedule includes up to 24 hours per week, with hours varying based on operational needs.
