Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Network Systems Analyst to join our team at the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo. As a key member of our Information Technology department, you will be responsible for monitoring and maintaining our network infrastructure to ensure optimal performance and accessibility.

Key Responsibilities
  • Monitor network traffic to identify and troubleshoot issues, and perform diagnostic and remedial procedures to ensure network performance.
  • Provide first-line and second-line support for users and IT services staff, including troubleshooting and resolving technical issues.
  • Install, maintain, and troubleshoot PCs, servers, and network equipment, including wireless, firewall, and fiber systems.
  • Perform preventative maintenance on computing and communications systems, and maintain backup software and hardware equipment to ensure data recovery.
  • Administer and troubleshoot VoIP and traditional analog phone systems, as well as network security administration and troubleshooting.
  • Design and implement remote access networks using site-to-site and SSL VPN.
  • Configure and install building environmental network devices for monitoring in remote sites.
  • Administer and troubleshoot load balancer devices.
  • Direct daily activities of technology contractors as needed.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot wireless systems throughout the municipality's buildings, including remote site locations.
  • Provide support to end users by investigating, troubleshooting, resolving, and documenting technical issues.
  • Participate in network-oriented projects, including the addition of new facilities, technology, and infrastructure.
  • Monitor internet and network bandwidth utilization, and log and report any malicious actions caught through the firewall.
  • Research and maintain documentation, and provide recommendations for replacement, upgrades, or elimination of existing hardware equipment and software applications.
  • Provide information and technical advice concerning the condition of the network infrastructure.
  • Monitor and control network security using network tools and services.
  • Review and ensure network optimization by reviewing configuration and designs for improvements to performance and speeds.
Requirements
  • Solid working knowledge of Cisco switches, firewalls, and other networking equipment.
  • Proven ability to read and understand complex technical manuals.
  • High degree of precision and accuracy in documentation and investigative procedures.
  • Ability to respond to network malfunctions by diagnosing the problem and initiating appropriate remedial procedures and repairs.
  • Ability to work independently and to effectively schedule work to meet service demands and minimize disruption to users.
  • Maintains professionalism and ability to work well under pressure.
  • Diploma in computer science or a related field with an emphasis on networks and information security.
  • Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) certification is required.
  • CCNP certification is preferred, and CISSP/ CISA/ CISM/ CCSP are also considered assets.
  • Three (3) years of direct experience with Cisco networking solutions.
  • Ability to provide a Criminal Record Check.
  • A Class Five (5) Operator's License is required.
  • Pre-employment testing may be required as part of the interview process.
