About the Role:

As a key member of the Facilities Management team, the Engineering Operations unit plays a crucial role in overseeing the functionality and upkeep of essential building utility services. Our engineers are tasked with the monitoring, management, and repair of utility distribution systems across the campus, ensuring a safe and supportive atmosphere for all stakeholders.

Core Responsibilities:

Under the guidance of the Assistant Director of Engineering and Physical Plant, or the Lead Engineer, the successful candidate will:

  • Assist in the operational management of the Central Plant and district heating systems.
  • Ensure the safe and efficient functioning of mechanical equipment and services.
  • Conduct regular inspections and maintenance of mechanical systems.
  • Respond promptly to alarms and service calls, including emergency situations.
  • Collaborate with external contractors and internal trades during maintenance activities.
  • Maintain accurate logs of equipment operations and incidents.

Qualifications:

Education:
A high school diploma or equivalent, complemented by a valid Third Class Operating Engineer Certification in Ontario. A Building Environmental Systems Certificate is considered an asset.

Experience:
A minimum of three years in a similar operational role, with a solid understanding of mechanical systems, including refrigeration and heating. Proficiency in basic electrical systems and familiarity with computerized control systems is essential.

Skills:
Strong diagnostic abilities, effective communication skills, and a commitment to customer service are crucial. Candidates should demonstrate a dedication to fostering an equitable and respectful workplace.

Work Schedule:
This position requires flexibility to work rotating shifts, including days, evenings, and weekends.
