Job Summary

The Second Engineer under the authority of the Master and Chief Engineer is responsible for maintaining the uninterrupted operation of shipboard machinery and systems. This includes managing and overseeing the implementation of preventative maintenance projects.

Main Responsibilities

- Manage the activity of shipboard engineering personnel.
- Order items through SINEX and do so cost-effectively.
- Ensure that all engineering personnel adhere to safety policies.
- Lead preventative maintenance initiatives in a cost-effective, efficient, and timely manner.
- Conduct performance reviews of shipboard engineering personnel and identify areas for improvement.
- Ensure the safe and proper operation of propulsion and auxiliary machinery.
- Troubleshoot when machines are not working correctly.
- Monitor bunker and lubricants.
- Respond to oil pollution according to the correct procedure.
- Possess good communication skills.

Requirements

- Hold a Second-Class Engineer license (Motor III/2) issued by Transport Canada, with a First-Class Engineer license desired.
- MED with respect to STCW basic safety, MED training with respect to proficiency in survival craft and rescue boats other than fast rescue boats, MED in advanced firefighting, MED for senior officers, and ship management practices taught using a propulsive plant simulator (level 2).
- Specialized Oil Tanker Training Certificate of Proficiency (SOTT) with Transport Canada Level-2 Endorsement.
- Tanker experience, preferably with dual fuel (LNG).
- Dual Fuel (LNG) Training – Advance.
- Marine Advanced First Aid.
- Ship Personnel with Designated Security Duties.
- A valid Passport and Transport Canada Marine Medical.
- Eligible to enter the US.

Additional Requirements

- May require additional training courses in occupational health and safety, oil spill response, and accident/hazard investigation training.
